Melafix can help the healing process, but if any bacteria have already entered the wound, or if it is caused by a bacterial infection, you will need an antibacterial medication as well such as Pimafix. Melafix and Pimafix are often used together. I know money is an issue, but when keeping fish, you need to be prepared to spend money on them if the need arises.
Keep the water quality as clean as possible by doing partial water changes every other day and continue the use of Melafix, if you think the wound is getting worse, then you need the Pimafix as well. Be careful with neon's though, as they can be very sensitive to meds.....although these are supposedly safe for even neon tetras. There is no way to know for sure what caused the wound, it may be caused by water quality issues, a cyst that ruptured, bacterial infection or a bite from another fish etc. I still honestly believe you have a water quality problem, because you are not getting Nitrate readings (which has already been discussed in another thread). I hope he makes it FishFreak! |

I understand that and I know it can be difficult to judge the exact reading, but in a healthy/established tank, the Nitrate should be between 5-10, not at zero....that is all I'm trying to say, perhaps you are getting a level between 0-10 (of say 5), but reading it as 0, I don't know...that is why I would try and get the liquid kits as soon as you can.
