My betta just died within a hour of putting him in his tank that I cleaned
I think that he died of an internal parisite because when I looked I saw strings around his gills

I am sorry to hear that FishFreak.
It could have been gill flukes (just one possibility). Nearly all diseases/parasites, unless brought in by other new fish, can usually be attributed to the water quality/water parameters of the tank. Again, I'm sorry you lost him, I know he meant a lot to you! |

The strings may have been excess slime that the fish excreted thru the gills....The change water may have been untreated or toxic somehow....It could also have been osmotic shock because of differences in the old and new water.......It is not likely the strings were parasites or you would have noticed symptoms long before the fish died.

Yes! That is the more likely scenario.
